The first step in your career with Mercer’s Health and Benefits business is as a Health & Benefits Analyst, either on the general track or the actuarial track.  As an H&B Analyst, you will work closely with senior consultants, partnering with client companies, in the design, financing, pricing and administration of their health and welfare programs. You will review current plan designs, contribution strategies and funding arrangements, and conduct benchmark studies to develop short- and long-term strategic goals that meet your client's benefit and financial needs. An H&B Analyst can expect to:
  • Develop an awareness of the insurance vendor marketplace, plan designs, health care cost factors, and the renewal process for health and group benefit programs.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret health care claims and utilization data from vendors/carriers for reporting to the client, including cost projections and evaluation of vendor renewals.
  • Coordinate the Request For Proposal (RFP) process on behalf of a client, including collecting and analyzing responses from carriers
  • Support consulting team’s benchmarking by gathering health benefits data from Mercer’s national survey and comparing a client’s plan information to other companies by industry or geography.
  • Assist senior consultants to review client needs, recommend suitable approaches and help implement benefit program strategies.
  • Model employee benefits contributions to meet employer objectives
  • Help write and structure client communications, including proposals, reports, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Develop project management and consulting skills.  Depending on the segment and clients supported, the analyst may serve as a day-to-day client contact for support in resolving service or claim issues with vendors/carriers.
 
Qualified candidates for an H&B Analyst position will have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, math, statistics, or liberal arts
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and project management skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong business acumen paired with intellectual curiosity
