Full-time Rotational HR Position with Microsoft (Redmond, WA)

Description:  HR Trax Program Description - FULL TIME

Flexible Rotations:
The HR Trax program is a flexible development program which enables participants to have a variety of rich work experiences across human resource.  As a member of the HR Trax Program, you will rotate through two assignments; one in a business line (Generalist or Staffing/Recruiting); and the other in an HR functional specialty role (Compensation, Benefits, Leadership and Management Development, Diversity, or Organizational Development).  Each assignment lasts one year, with the total program length being two years.  Mentoring and feedback are an integral part of the program rotations to ensure that you obtain the most valuable experience.  At the completion of the program, you will enter an area of HR at Microsoft determined by business needs, career interests, and capabilities.

Location:
Microsoft has a wide variety of businesses in the United States and around the world.  The Corporate Headquarters is located in Redmond, WA which is 10 miles east of Seattle.  It is possible for both or your rotations to occur in the Puget Sound area, working with over 40,000 employees on any of the seven campuses, providing diverse experiences and broad exposure to the entire company.  Microsoft’s global presence also provides opportunities to interact with colleagues around the world.   Several of our rotational members have taken assignments in other geographies in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Primary responsibilities
Throughout the assignments, you will be engaged in some of the following activities:

Business Partner - Understand the business. Serve as a key member of the leadership team to assist in driving business results. Drive systemic organizational and people strategies that are aligned to the business agenda.  Work with other HR team members to drive a common agenda forward.

Change Management - Partner with and coach business leadership team to facilitate organization and culture change. Act as a catalyst for building organizational effectiveness within the business. Educate business on HR trends that affect the business. Acquire business sponsorship for HR initiatives.

Project Management - Lead implementation of core HR programs into the business insuring an effective, sustainable people agenda over the long term. Provide business-specific feedback to the HR team for design and delivery improvement of field-ready solutions, including improved self service models.

Advising & Advocating - Build management capability to facilitate an open, inclusive, Microsoft Values based environment that enables effective employee advocacy. Ensure role is perceived as a safe, objective employee resource and escalation path for unresolved employee relations issues.

  • Strong business acumen and professional confidence
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, coupled with the ability to both negotiate and persuade others
  • Skills in partnering with business leaders to realize employee value
  • Passion for technology 
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with ambiguity, and work in a team environment
  • Ability to recognize trends and identify systematic approaches to solving problems in a fast moving, dynamic environment
  • Work experience in the field of HR is strongly preferred
  • BS/BA degree required, MBA or MA in HR-related field strongly preferred
  • Leverage HR best practices to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry

HR Trax Intern with Microsoft (Redmond, WA)

Description:  HR Trax Program Description – INTERN

Come join us for a real world experience like no other!  As an intern at Microsoft, you’ll have real responsibility, real work, and real opportunities to jumpstart your career. (You’ll get paid, too!) Microsoft offers a challenging internship opportunity for top HR talent.  This 12 week program is thoughtfully designed to provide interns with strategic projects, exposure to company leadership, and an extended opportunity to partner with the businesses in Microsoft’s unique culture.  As a member of Microsoft HR, your projects will enable you to impact the business directly.

Flexible Assignment:
The program is very flexible and enables an intern to have a rich, self-directed experience.  As an intern in the HR Trax Program, you will be assigned to one of the following areas:  employee relations, compensation, benefits, staffing/recruiting, leadership and management development, diversity, or organizational development.  Mentoring and feedback are consistently provided throughout the summer to ensure you receive the most valuable experience.
